There was no medical equipment lending facility in The Gambia. Meaning that people with a (temporarily or permanent) disability with an average income, had to depend on ‘a generous donor’ in order to have access to medical equipment.

If you do not have access to medical equipment (quickly), this can have far-reaching consequences, even in the short term. For example:
– family care is endangered;
– work or school can not be continued;
– general physical condition deteriorates.

In The Gambia sadly people with a disability often become socially isolated as they end up lying in bed (often just a mattress on the floor) 24/7.
